Day 01b Lhasa - Lhukang Park

After catching up some sleep, in the late afternoon we visited Lukhang Park. The park at the back of the Potala was a site where the Tibetan aristocracy used to picnic or drink tea, but it now attracts picnickers, strollers and people relaxing.

1 & 2. Opera performances, at a big tent near the entrance of the park. The background say "Celebrate Shotun Festival"

3. The back of the Potala as seen from the park

4. The White Palace of the Potala, which used to be the living quarters of the Dalai Lama.

5. The lake in the park, with Potala looming over it

6. The Red Palance of the Potala. The golden rooftops mark important chapels and stupas where the salt-dried bodies of past Dalai Lama are placed. In the photo on the right, the downslope leads to the entrance while the upslope is where visitors leave the Potala. The round bund in the middle is a small carpark (for dignitaries only, of course)

8. Another opera performance, at the foot of the Potala
